Celebrity menswear designer Miguel Wilson, founder of the Miguel Wilson Collection was honored at the Georgia State Capitol on Monday, March 29, with a resolution from the Georgia House of Representatives, a commendation from Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and an “Outstanding Business Certificate” from the Office of the Secretary of State.
During a ceremony held in the South Wing of the Capitol, Wilson was presented his honors by Georgia Rep. Mesha Mainor (D-Atlanta).
“It’s only with the dedication of so many volunteers, partners and sponsors am I able to receive these honors. It’s to them, to my family and friends that I share these honors and recognition,” Wilson said.
As an Atlanta resident, a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, and a longtime businessman and philanthropist in the state of Georiga, Wilson continues to use his business of over 20 years, and his love of fashion and horses, to create opportunities to give back to the community.
Wilson’s business is located in Phipps Plaza, in Atlanta’s Buckhead District, where it has attracted not only local customers but also clients from across the country and internationally.
Rep. Mainor was instrumental in the passing of Georgia House Resolution 438, which commended Wilson for his work with his nonprofit organization Ride to the Olympics, which helps provide opportunities in equestrian sports for under-represented youth, and his partnership with Morehouse College that resulted in the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) polo team.
Other Georgia representatives included in the resolution include Rep. William Boodie (D-East Point), Rep. Manisha Thomas (D-Atlanta), Rep. El-Mahdi Holly (D-Stockbridge), and Rep. James Beverly (D-Macon).
