TEDxCollier Heights returns for the third time with Killer Mike as featured speaker

By 404 Communications

TEDxCollier Heights presents its third official TEDx event on Saturday, August 16, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, at Frederick Douglass High School, with Atlanta cultural curator and media maven Satchel B. Jester serving as host.

The theme for this year’s event is “Exits.” It highlights I-285 Exit 9 and I-20 Exit 52, the gateways to Collier Heights—a historic Atlanta neighborhood that was once home to notable figures like Reverend Martin Luther King Sr., Reverend Ralph David Abernathy, Herman J. Russell, and Donald B. Hollowell. It is also the current home to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

“The spirit of Collier Heights, a neighborhood that has influenced art, culture, and government, is very much alive,” said Ann Hill-Bond, Licensee & Curator for TEDxCollier Heights. “This year’s theme, ‘Exits,’ is about honoring the past while charting a new path forward. We are honored to provide a platform that connects the legacies of those who paved the way with the voices shaping our future.”

TEDxCollier Heights is celebrating Atlanta’s legacy with a lineup of five distinguished, Atlanta-native speakers. Each speaker has contributed to the city’s growth through their respective professions and interests. The speakers are:

  • Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Grammy Award-winning artist and activist
  • Floyd Hall, artist and curator
  • Mo Ivory, Esq., Fulton County Commissioner and Georgia State University law professor
  • Sterling Johnson, director of the Just Opportunity Portfolio at the Partnership for Southern Equity
  • Christine White, Esq., attorney and social impact leader

Odie Donald II, former chief of Staff to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and former city administrator for the City of South Fulton, also returns as a Legacy Presenter. Donald served as a featured speaker at the inaugural TEDxCollier Heights in 2019.

An independently organized TEDx event in Atlanta, Georgia, TEDxCollier Heights will explore the southern city with a population that has proven capacity to affect the character, development, and behavior of everything on a local, national, and global scale.

During this year’s TEDxCollier Heights event, Atlanta City Councilmember Andrea Boone will present Ann Hill-Bond with a proclamation from Atlanta City Hall, recognizing her community engagement and storytelling for the Atlanta community.
